New Zealand’s South Island is a landscape photographers dream. With breathtaking beaches, stunning mountains and incredible vistas around pretty much every bend, it’s sort of like dying and going to photography heaven. During the Fall months all the colours come to life in a spectacular show of bright yellows, deep reds and everything in between.
This excursion will primarily be aimed at capturing the most dramatic times of the day, sunrise and sunset and the golden hours. The tour also encompasses day time activities such as short hikes, a boat cruise and a gondola ride.
The 8 day (7 night) photography tour will be focused on 5 major destinations. Tekapo, Mount Cook, Wanaka, Queenstown and Milford Sound.
The 8 available spots are open to all levels of photographers.
Our trip begins with pick up from either Christchurch International Airport or the hotel of your choice in Christchurch on the first day. After lunch and a chance to introduce everybody we’ll be hitting the road toward Tekapo.
Tekapo is a beautiful little town situated at the southern tip of the lake with the same name. It’s turquoise colour is something that draws photographers from all over the world. The picturesque Church of the Good shepherd will be one of our focuses whilst staying here.
After a lake side sunrise shoot in Tekapo the tour heads further South West toward Mount Cook. Mount Cook National Park is home to the renowned Hooker Glacial Lake where Mount Cook, New Zealand's tallest mountain, towers over you in the distance. Be sure to pack your hiking boots because we will be hiking around the dramatic mountains. A reasonable level of fitness is required, this is where we’ll be doing our longest hike. The Hooker Valley Trail 5km (3 hours).
Unlike most other photography tours around New Zealand our accommodation is directly at Mount Cook Village not one hour away in Twizel.
This picturesque beautiful spot boasts one of the most popular photography destinations on the whole of the South Island. The famous lone Wanaka Tree. Here in Central Otago is really where you’ll begin to see the fall colours in full force a truly remarkable spectacle of nature.
From Wanaka we’ll be taking the spectacular Crown Range Road to Milford Sound where we’ll be indulging in an afternoon boat cruise around the spectacular fjords. Upon arrival we’ll be photographing the spectacular Mitre peak both at sunset and at sunrise to give everyone an idea of how light can change depending on the time of the day.
Unlike most other photography tours around New Zealand, our accommodation is directly at Milford Sound not 2 hours away in Te Anau.
Just around the corner from Wanaka, over the Crown Range Road, is what many consider to be the gem of the New Zealand. Nestled away in the Southern Alps, Queenstown’s beautiful surroundings are simply something that have to be seen to be believed. We’ll be spending two nights here, having a trip up the Skyline Gondola, and doing a day trip to Glenorchy. If the conditions are favourable we will also be visiting Moke Lake for some astro photography.
After a sunrise shoot at one of Queenstowns many beautiful destinations and after a hearty group breakfast our tour will end with either being dropped off at a hotel of your choice or to the International airport in Queenstown.
